Happy National Adoptee Awareness Month and Happy one year anniversary to Rebirth Adoptee Stories!
I want to share a poem I wrote about the journey I’ve been on towards self-actualization. Over the last few years I’ve started learning more about who I am and unsurprisingly my identity as an adoptee has been intertwined with this process. With therapy and intentional inner work I can say at this point of my life I am really happy to be adopted. It’s brought me great internal storms, but also opened up a whole world of connection. That is so worth it to me.
I made a video of this poem, 8/8 which is the date I came to America. I don’t celebrate this day as my ‘gotcha day’ as I feel that it feeds the transactional nature of the institution of adoption, but I do acknowledge it as an important day in mine and my family’s life.
As I near the end of my masters program and celebrate the first year of Rebirth, I want to take time to thank you for supporting this project. I have many plans for Rebirth post grad and hope you stick around for a bit. I’ve never done something like this so enjoy the elementary video and animation creation lol.
