Rebirth Interview Info

Background	The narrative of adoption has been dominated by researchers and adoptive parents, with the conversation lacking the voices of actual adoptees. I intend to work with our community to tell Adoptee’s stories from an Adoptees’ perspective. Originally inspired by Humans of New York, I started this project during my master’s program and intend to continue after. I really appreciate your willingness to help me with this project. I believe that when we share bits of our own stories it creates different connection points for other people to relate to which broadens their perspective of what it means to be adopted.
Purpose	The interview is a part of a research project focused on telling these stories from people with first hand experience. The purpose of this project is to diversify of the narrative of adoption by sharing the lived experiences of adoptees.
Plan	The interview will last approximately 30 min-1 hour on Microsoft Teams. I will be recording the interview. Although I will ask you the interview questions (see below) you are not required to answer all of the questions. You may pass on any question that makes you feel uncomfortable. At any time, you may stop the interview or pull out of the project all together. Your first name, reviewed interview transcription/story, and photos will be featured on the Rebirth website and the Rebirth Social Media platforms (Instagram, Facebook).
Action	– Please read this document and sign the Informed Consent Form. -After the interview: -I will send you an email about a month after the interview with the link to a Google Doc for you to optionally modify your story. -I will send you an estimated amount of photos to send me to accompany your story. For examples, see Instagram page -The only required photos are one of you as a baby and a current one. -You will have roughly one month to do your revisions and send the photos. Let me know if I can clarify anything for you or if you have any other questions or concerns!

Interview Questions

• What is your name?
• Where did you grow up and where you live now?
• How old were you when you were adopted and where were you adopted from?
• Tell me about your adoption experience in whatever depth you are comfortable with
  • ie: traveling back to your birth country, going to different camps as a kid, birth or foster parent
• search, meeting other adoptees, attending events etc.
• How do you feel about adoption as an adult? And has your perspective changed over the years?
• Do you have any advice for adoptees who have gone through similar experiences to you?
